My Overall Score 5/10:

While the novel overall isn't anything great, and from the scores I have given it would appear to be something not worth the read, I have nonetheless written a review for it. The only reason I have thought it worth my time were first two chapters of the story. By all means, it is worth reading them in my personal opinion. But reading any further than that is completely up to your own discretion. At least for me, the first two chapters helped me broaden my horizons a bit. That is always a very welcome matter :)

Synopsis&NovelUpdates Link: Hyaku ma no Omo

Merea was summoned to a place called “Sacred Mountain of Lindholm” where spirits gather upon their death. He was called upon using an Otherworldly Grass which found it’s way to his world. The reason for summoning him was to dispel the lingering attachment and/or regrets of a group of heroic spirits from another world.

Brought up as a hero to dispel regrets, the era of the world made him into a demon lord instead.

Plot Score: 4/10

Story starts in a very interesting manner, and from the very premise easily catches the reader's attention. It's unique in the way it describes passing away. And it makes one want to read more. Even the reincarnation into another world, such a common cliche in many Japanese novels, seems to be something well-prepared. It hints at the possibility that said story would unveil into something beautiful. And yet just a chapter later it can be seen that all of that was written only as a setting, only as an excuse to make another OP MC saving the world. Plot becomes extremely hurried and shallow after the prologue and chapter 1 of the story, and all of that leads to MC being childishly fixated on the meaning of the words Hero and Demon Lord, which became blurred in the world he reincarnated in. Extremely childish, extremely shallow, it makes one feel as if first two chapters were written by somebody completely different than what follows afterwards. Nevertheless, up to the middle of chapter 1, the plot could be rated at about 9+. Unfortunately, it quickly breaks down into something so poor I would barely give it 3 points.

It is still worth the read, albeit not in full, but merely for said first 2 chapters. Reading more might cause one to feel a sense of loss.

Character Presentation Score: 5/10

Characters presented in the story are great many. And I mean that. There are initially over a 100 important characters, and while they have had enourmous potential for being presented, they all ended up being mere side-characters meant to explain MC's OPness. Their regrets and hopes that kept them around for dozens, if not hundreds, of years, turn out to be simple jokes. And after all 100 of them dissipate after Merea fullfills their dreams and hopes, mostly by accident at that, there are dozens of new characters introduced. And again, their presentations are shallow and very much bleak.

Nevertheless, there are two good things one can notice about presented characters in this story. One being the MC, as he gets to be developed quite well, albeit very succintly too. And the other being the variety of characteristics each side-character possess. Even with how shallow the presentations are, their main traits are still discernible.

Action Flow Score: 4/10

Action in Hyaku Ma no Omo is slow. That in itself is a good trait, for most of the cases. as it usually allows for better character growth, and for more chances to do some proper world building. Unfortunately, it is one of those cases where, aside from first two chapters, it is not a good trait. Why would that be? Well, simply put the story is akin to a bunch of short events stiched together by phrases like "years later". It would still be okay in normal cases, but the Author appears to try to introduce too many side-characters at once in those short events, and he does so poorly. In the end, the aforementioned slow action is not really used for character development, nor for proper world building. Actual action also takes but mere moments in comparison to the sheer amount of text.

In a way, action in Hyaku Ma no Omo could be likened to skipping stones over water. Each time a stone skips, it creates small ripples on the water surface, while only shallowly getting wet, until finally creating bigger ripples just before drowning. The action is exactly like that, most of it is slow, boring, shallow, and used only to get the reader to those few supposedly interesting events.

Logical Consistency Score: 7/10

While unexpected given expectations after previous scores, logical consistency of the story is actually kept quite well. There is not much to say here, consequences of events are few, but exist for the most part, and events that should happen logically speaking, also do happen. Even if a bit shallow, the story keeps itself in the right order. But it is also nothing exceptional.

World Building Score: 5/10

World building in the novel is mostly shallow, and force-fed to the reader. The issues appear artificial and are mostly underdeveloped. Like a drawn picture of a little child, trying to draw the world in a way that an adult would. Still, world building can be actually seen in the story, and it doesn't really collide with itself either, which is certainly a plus.
